A well-defined recordkeeping system is essential for integrated pest management. To establish trends and patterns in pest outbreaks, every step plays an important role starting with pest identification, population size, distribution, recommendations for future prevention, and complete information on the treatment action. A tool that could be utilized to monitor pest management efforts is a service ticket, which is submitted by the pest control companies after completion of the treatment. These service tickets can prove helpful in monitoring pest reduction and elimination as they provide information about the infested units, level of infestation, products used by the pest control company, and if any further repairs are needed to overcome infestation. Information gathered will inform where the heaviest infestations are and where additional attention might be needed. Inevitably, a well-recorded physical log of pest management efforts (date, pest type, control method, result, etc.) would greatly benefit in thorough pest clean out.

Accurate records of pest activity monitoring and pest management are critical to a successful IPM program. Record-keeping allows schools to evaluate the results of IPM practices and to determine if they are meeting their pest management objectives.
