On February 28, 2012 HUD’s Office of Public and Indian Housing issued Notice PIH-2012-17 “Guidelines on Bedbug Control and Prevention in Public Housing.” This notice applies to PHAs administering the public housing and project based Section 8 program. Although this notice does not apply to Indian tribes/TDHEs and owners/agents providing assisted housing through the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, it may be of interest.
The notice has sections on prevention, addressing infestations, tenant rights and responsibilities, and REAC inspections. There is also a related attachment titled “Prevention and Safe Removal of Bedbugs” that includes a prevention action plan, and bedbug removal action plan. Download the documents at http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/HUD?src=/program_offices/public_indian_housing/publications/notices.
I encourage you all to take time this week to read through the notice and related attachment. If you want more information, the notice includes a list of resources. Note that the IPM Guide referenced on page 2 is in the review stages. It should be posted at stoppests.org within the next two months. I’ll let you know when it’s up!
